monawea is a friend of mine at Blog Catalog, and came up with this idea of creating a BUZZ about Blog Catalog. So that Together we can Grow this Wonderful Blog Community.
I have made numerous Great Friends there in the week and half I’ve been there and making new friendz each day. Learning more about blogging and finding other bloggers with simalar interest, and starting to connect with them, commenting on there blogs and linking to them from mine.
She, monawea writes…
“I have been using BlogCatalog for a little over a week now, and I am very impressed and with this social networking site. Before I discovered BlogCatalog I was primarily using MyBlogLog. I am still focusing a lot of my attention on MyBlogLog but the main reason I have used MyBlogLog is because it is the largest social networking site of it’s kind (targeting the blogosphere). As a user I have access to thousands of other MyBlogLog members but I have never been very please with the usability of MyBlogLog. As I have said in another post, MyBlogLog only offers members a ‘MySpace’ type commenting section which I believe encourages spamming instead of quality interaction with other members.
There have been a few other blog focussed social networking sites introduced within the last year but none have impressed me like BlogCatalog. So how did BlogCatalog impress me?”
- User Friendly -BlogCatalog is easy to use. Not all people have the time or desire to try and figure out how to sign up and use an interactive site.
- Site Design – I like the ‘blog style’ Blog Detail and Profile pages. As a blog reader and blogger author I feel very comfortable with the design. I was instantly familiar with the layout of this site.
- Directory -I like the directory style blog browsing. Separating blogs into categories and being able to browse through the categories is simple but effective.
- Widget -BlogCatalog offers widgets that are very similar to MyBlogLog’s widgets and just as customizable. It’s easy to put the two widgets together without looking cluttered or out of place. SmartWealthyRich.com uses MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog widgets together very nicely.
- Interaction -Each Blog Detail page is like a separate blog page that shows recent views and friends. Viewers are also able to leave a comment without having to be a member of BlogCatalog. This is a very nice feature. One that I think MyBlogLog should learn from.
- Recent Posts -My recent posts are in the main content section of my blog detail page and not in the sidebar. MyBlogLog offers only a tiny section at the bottom of your community page which really annoys me.
- Discussion – They have a new discussion area that is fun to read and reinforces the community interaction.
There are some things that could be improved but for the most part BlogCatalog is in my opinion is the best blog targeting social networking site. One downfall to using BlogCatalog is that is doesn’t have volume of members (using the widget) that MyBlogLog has. Though 63,393 users and 57,086 approved blogs is not bad it still would be nice to have more members to network with. I believe that existing members can help grow this community by creating a mass buzz . Members of BlogCatalog need to give this site more link love and exposure. So I am calling a BlogCatalog Community Mass Buzz. Sorry if the title sounds silly, I couldn’t think of anything else.
Here is how it will go down. On Monday May 14th (one week from today) all members that want to participate will post a BlogCatalog Community Mass Buzz post. Post about what you like about BlogCatalog and link to your blog detail or profile page. It would probably be a good idea to link to BlogCatalog home page as well. The idea is that if we all get the buzz out on the same day (or there abouts) it will create a flood of interest quickly.
In case you are wondering I am not getting paid to post this. I just understand the benefits of using social networking sites such as BlogCatalog and understand that the best advertisement is word-of-mouth. I am also interested to see if this type of event would be worth recreating for promotion of other websites. So join me on May 14th and contribute to the BlogCatalog Community Mass Buzz. Please leave a comment on this post with a link to your post (remember iwebis follows links) so I can Stumble it and include a list of links in a future post.
